Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models: benefits, origins, examples

What are Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models benefits and who is using those models?

Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models are used in various context by different public organizations and private companies notably to drive value centric initiatives, improve performance and optimize budget use.

Where are Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models coming from?

The vast majority of renowned Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models (the Enterprise Architecture Maturity litterature and related subjects such as Enterprise Architecture Effectivness) come from the USA and English speaking countries. (The Dynamic Architecture Maturity Matrix, mentioned below, comes from Netherlands and van Steenbergen et al.)

In France, experts may also talk about “Information Systems Urbanization” that can be associated to IT Enterprise Architecture (based on the Club Urba-EA viewpoint) and use an approach called “l’Indice d’urbanisation” which means Urbanization Index.

The Hybrid Enterprise Architecture Maturity Model (HEAMM) is the first Enterprise Architecture Maturity Model created in France but more interestingly, among the various caracteristics it has, it is worth mentioning that this approach combines 100 areas of assessment and development that include Digital initiatives to extend (significantly and meaningfully) the scope of usual Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models.

The Hybrid Enterprise Architecture Maturity Model: a free matrix to assess and grow organizations extensively

Do you need to grow your organization?
Do you need to assess the level of development of your organization now and will have to measure your progress in the future?
Do you need to design a detailed and prioritized roadmap to change or transform your organzation?

Fortune 500 companies, the US Government (the United States Government Accountability Office, the United States Department of Commerce, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and many more organizations around the world use Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models notably to realize assessments and drive growth in a structured manner.

As various Enterprise Architecture Maturity Models exist and are complementary, I have decided to combine their strengths in a single strategical and organizational tool called the Hybrid Enterprise Architecture Maturity Model (HEAMM).

The HEAMM gives organizations the possibility notably to:
– do a quick assessment with a very wide and detailed scope of analysis,
– generate rapidly a 360 degrees plan for improvement that includes digital transformation initiatives,
– have a clear development target state to aim for and metrics to make sure that goals are reached.
